The weatherman had promised rain in the afternoon, but we refused to speak of it. Instead, we enjoyed a warm, humid early afternoon as we got Katie & Doug ready at Katie’s parent’s home in Arlington.

The day started like any other – Vivian, Jessica and I were buzzing around with details and then we came to a complete and grinding stop when we sent an earring back flying through the kitchen. Now, I’ve seen a lot of crazy things over my 14 years in business. Heck, I’ve done a nice chunk of those crazy things. But this was the first time in a long time that I was starting to actually panic. This wasn’t just any missing earring back – this was the missing earring back from a brand spanking new pair of earrings that Doug had given Katie that day. My stomach sank as we crawled around on the kitchen floor and surveyed every nook and cranny. In case you are wondering, the floor was impeccably clean. That’s always a bonus.

Instead, I’m sure you are wondering if we indeed did find the earring back and what I would have done had I not found it. Well, you may be happy to hear that Jessica, who is beyond amazing as it is, was able to find that little sucker securely snuggled in the front pocket of my camera bag, which happened to be near the initial flying incident. There was an enormous sigh of relief and twenty million hugs in the kitchen. If anyone had witnessed it, they may have thought that we were just really overly excited about a shot.

As to what I would have done, well I was already summoning up the courage to break the news and offering to pay for brand new backs. Had any of us been wearing yellow gold earrings, we would have happily given them up to the cause until I could get it properly replaced. Instead, we were beyond lucky this time and we were definitely reminded to slow down. And, of course, it means that I have another crazy story to tell.
