St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Arlington was truly spectacular. I’ve always called these kinds of churches ‘a church in the round’ which then reminds me of the lyrics to “Billie Jean”:
“She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene
I said don’t mind, but what do you mean I am the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round
She said I am the one, who will dance on the floor in the round “
I end up singing it the whole time that I’m the church. You are probably singing it now and I’ve broken your forever. YEAH! “… in the round”
So while that might not be the architecturally correct term for the church, it’s what I have always called it and shooting a ‘church in the round’ is quite spectacular, I think, because you have so many gorgeous angles. I have found the photography rules at Catholic churches to more lax overall and I did indeed have the ability to photograph from both the back and the front of the aisle.
