I do this thing on a wedding day where I sometimes have to apologize and say “I’m sorry, I came in hot! Please, let me introduce myself …” That means that I just walked in and got down to business without any fluff. It’s usually when I have three million things on my mind and I’m trying to be the most efficient while juggling all of those thoughts at once. I totally did that when I arrived at Ashton Gardens that afternoon and saw the coordinator. Except, this time I added “There might be a small possibility that we will run late after the ceremony for pictures, but I’m NOT planning on it “. She laughed at me and waited for me to take a breath.
I’m all about setting expectations and knowing that I signed a contract with the venue saying I would be out of the chapel at a certain time meant that I needed to stay true to my word. Now, please don’t misunderstand – the venue won’t scold me or throw me out for running over. My sweet clients won’t spontaneously combust if I run late either. But as I stand there smiling sweetly, there is a clock in the back of my mind that keeps going “tick, tock”. What normally happens in a time crunch is that the couple gets fewer images together and to be completely blunt, that sucks. But that wasn’t going to happen on this particular day…
Vivian and I divided and conquered, in double time. It didn’t hurt that we had a beautiful wedding party that supported Danielle and Dennis and were there with them every step of the way. They were ready to do anything for them. That’s true friendship – a group of people that will uplift you and help you succeed by being there in the moment with you.
