I met Kristin and Jesse by accident, really. At the time, I had just purchased a brand new flash and had asked another photographer (shout out, Gavin McNosky!) if I could tag along with him so I could figure that sucker out. I was still fairly new to digital  at the time and  still offering a film wedding photography package – and actually telling my clients that digital wouldn’t take off – that film was where it was at! Wow how things change, I went fully digital about a year later.

Kristin and Jesse’s wedding was the most down to earth and loving affair that I have ever witnessed. The ceremony was at the Grapevine Botanic Garden, between a cloudy afternoon and a major downpour. But everyone was in amazing spirits, even when we arrived at her in laws home to find the DJ equipment completely soaked by the rain and the newly landscaped backyard waterlogged.

So the party got moved inside and her grandfather played the accordion for their first dance. It was the true definition of heart felt.

Over the years, I have been able to keep up the family as it grew from just Kristin and Jesse to a family of 5. Kristin and I even had the opportunity to collaborate on some amazing weddings and open houses over the years at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.

Michelle Peyronet took over family pictures (as that is more her forte) and she was scheduled to photograph the arrival of their third child. Well, he was a little stubborn with his arrival date so it happened to fall on a day that Michelle was out of town for a wedding and so, tag, I was it!

As many of you know, small children scream their lungs out around me so this was quite an adventure for me, but I walked in with utter calm and I was welcomed by those same loving, smiling faces that I had seen years ago at the wedding. “I’ve got this,” I thought and I put my camera up and went full speed ahead.

The afternoon started with lots of waiting.

And finally a sign that there was a healthy baby from Kristin’s mom.

The first glimpses of their new baby brother were via a text message from Jesse.

And then we all got to go in and see the little guy. The boys were crazy excited.

Their first family picture together.
