This is only a portion of the gorgeous Ellis family, but it was still a pleasure to get them together while Mary (she’s the one wearing maroon below) was visiting from Japan. As you may remember, I photographed Mary & Nathan’s wedding in 2009. Today, I was able to meet their second beautiful daughter! Nathan, unfortunately could not join us, and I’m sure he was super jealous of missing portrait time!

So here’s my funny story for the day. I’ve noticed over my many years as a photographer that very few of my clients ask to assist me with my bags. And honestly, that’s a really good thing as it’s always possible that some piece of expensive equipment might topple out of the bag if it is not picked up properly. (Really that’s usually my fault because I’m moving very quickly and I have not secured it, but I do have one particular bag that needs to be picked straight up instead of at an angle… but I digress …)

I opened the trunk of my car as we were all about to leave and I left my rolling bag behind with the majority of the family as I ran off to take just a few more shots of Mary’s oldest daughter on her scooter. I came back, and to my surprise, Mary’s brother had lovingly placed my bag in the trunk. Now that’s the sweetest thing and as I started to thank him, I also started to laugh. My keys and my phone were in the bag and the car was utterly and totally locked.

Now laughter is often my go to because my life is and always has been a series of ridiculous stories. So I continued to laugh and smile as we called AAA. For a split second, I even contemplated telling my boyfriend how right he was for suggesting I get AAA (I didn’t but I’m sure he complimented himself anyhow later that evening).

This is the second time, actually, that I have locked my keys in my car  as a photographer. The first time, I wasn’t so fortunate that it was at the conclusion of the session. Instead, I was about to start Heather’s bridals and all of my gear AND my keys were in the trunk of my vehicle. Although, I’m really not sure how that first one happened, I do remember Vivian was there so I’ll just blame her.

So there you go, a reminder to always wear clothing with pockets (for your keys and phone) and to laugh, no matter what the day may bring …
