I’m not dogging any of my friends or any of the selfless and wonderful gifts I have gotten, but my secret is that there’s no one else like Amy out there. And I’m blessed to have an Amy. In fact, I long to be the Amy of gift giving. Her gifts are always unexpected, utterly fantastic, and perfect. She yields her perfect gift giving wand with glamor and grace. I want to be just like Amy when I grow up.
My doorbell just rang and I made it to the front door just as the UPS guy was getting into his van. They know I’m usually at the door pretty quickly and sometimes linger a second because I wave and thank them. Well, that’s what I think, anyway – I’m sure it takes a second to walk up the driveway and get back in the van.
This package said “Perishable” on it. So I guess it’s not photography supplies unless my ink suddenly has an expiration date?
I’m ripping it with vigor, no idea who it’s from, but it’s perishable and I’m hungry. A styrofoam cooler box stares back at me. I throw out the paper around it and there’s this box:
I have no idea. There’s a packaging slip with Amy’s name on it and birthday note as well as the short description “macaroons”. Now I’ve eat my fair share of macaroons in the day. You know the, little balls of coconut, sometimes drizzled with chocolate that make you want to scream “MAZEL TOV!” because you can?
Wrong. I opened up the box to find fluffy, amazing goodness. French macaroons.
Yes, I actually ate one before I took a picture. I couldn’t handle it. They were perfectly beautiful and calling my name.
When Kristen walked in the door this morning, I started jabbering and speed walking towards the kitchen, telling her the whole story about how Amy is amazing and opening the box towards her. “You have to have one,” I urged. Kristen inquired about the flavors instead of grabbing the first one she saw like I did. I read off the flavors and we worked backwards to find the almond one. I could have eaten 3 more just in that time frame if I hadn’t smacked myself on the hand and said “no!”.
Hope they make it until Vivian gets here because I think Kristen and I could take down the whole box in the next couple of minutes otherwise …
