Hugo and I found ourselves at Billy Bob’s in Forth Worth – at the 81 Club at a hopping Gatsby-themed party. Growing up, I absolutely LOVED reading F. Scott Fitzergald. “The Great Gasby” was definitely one of my favorites and when the movie came out in 2013, I was smitten all over again. Mary Alex’s mom coordinated everything, and the excitement in her voice increased with every phone call. Her sweet daughter was turning 21 and she was over the moon about it! When we arrived, we were greeted with hugs like we had known her our whole lives and I knew that we were in for something very special.
Truth be told, I probably had a few moments of dialogue with Mary Alex herself, but what we witnessed was extraordinary. Most importantly, this woman was kind of heart. She welcomed her guests with vigor, and she treated everyone like family – even Hugo and myself – whom she sought out to thank for being there.
She was genuine. Her smile was genuine. Her words were genuine. She glowed.
She was so loved. The excitement in that room was truly electric, and it all centered around her. She glowed.
