Vivian and I have found ourselves in our share of fields lately for engagement portraits. I’ve come out fairly ok, but bugs seem to find Vivian super tasty. Since we had Ally & Brandon’s engagement pictures on Wednesday, we made a stop to our local supereverythingcenter to get some of those heavily advertised Off Clip-On.

The idea seems great … wear a clip on bug repellent instead of spraying yourself silly with a pine-scented one that is going to leave a gooey film on your skin anyway. The thing that should have alerted me from the beginning is that the packaging doesn’t mention the radius that the product covers. I mean, do I need one on me and one on Vivian? Do I need to throw one in Ally & Brandon’s pocket or are we all standing close enough to be covered in the cloud of of Clip-On goodness? The box and accompanying info sheet provided no answers.

Alright, fine. Vivian put the clip on her shorts and we went on our merry way.

Field #1- tall grass and weeds. The only bug irritation we were finding were ants. This stuff isn’t for ants. Win.

Field #2- short grass near a water, no bitey bites on anyone. Win.

Field #3- short grass in a park. Holy mother – we were covered by mosquitoes. A few bites in I was doing the jumpy dance and Vivian was trying to move the Clip-On to the side that  closest to me. Either the bugs were overpowering or the Clip-On was a waste of $9.

The real assessment came the following day in the studio. Vivian- covered in bug bites- even on the side that the Clip-On was dangling. Me, I’ve got much fewer, as always. Off Clip-on, you received a product fail from us.
