It was a quick sentence from Nathan the day the Texas Rangers became the 2011 American League Champions that started it all: “I would love to see the Cardinals play the Rangers in the World Series.” In regards to baseball, I know 2 very specific things about Nathan: that he has a special place in his heart for the Cardinals and he hasn’t been to a Rangers game since Nolan Ryan was still on the mound. But yet I found myself looking at tickets anyway, sort of half-heartedly at first, then in series “gotta get ’em mode” when Nathan called me the following Monday asking what I thought about a particular set of seats. Alright, this is going to happen!
We scored a pretty good set of seats on the first row of 302. They weren’t behind the dugout or home plate, but really they didn’t need to be, the experience was just amazing. As soon as we secured the tickets, I called up my favorite St Louis photographer Jonathan Pollack “I need a Cardinals tshirt by Sunday!” And he delivered the perfect Nathan shirt, which said “I’m your arch enemy”. Complete with the Rally Squirrel. The t-shirt made me giggle every time I saw it, the creator deserves the biggest kudos imaginable for pairing an angry squirrel and the perfect pun.
In Game 4, the Rangers massacred the Cardinals. And it was awesome.
