Elicia and Sean’s wedding day turned very eventful, very early on. What began with us leisurely photographing details turned quickly into O CRAP! mode when I moved too quickly and didn’t have a good grasp on my camera. It went careening off a chair – about a foot off the ground – and dropped along with my telephoto, onto the ceramic floor. The angle of impact, in addition to the weight of the lens attached cracked the front and made it inoperable. Crap.
I sat down on the floor for a moment, mostly chastising myself for moving so quickly but also planning my next move. I absolutely had a backup camera in my bag, my trusty 5D2 – and I carefully thought through my needs for the next 8 hours. After confirming that my telephoto was still functioning (thank goodness it was!), I unceremoniously handed Vivian my 5D2 and took possession of her 5D3 and we just kept going.
My thought process? Vivian would be moving to the reception venue within the next hour or so and I could take advantage of the increased low-light capabilities and focal points while shooting the ceremony. I was still kicking myself on the inside, but at least I had a solid plan in place.
Hugo caught me sneaking around the fountain.
There’s a Vivie in there somewhere.
